Focus on Learning and Wellbeing

To ensure that you and your fellow students have the best conditions for learning, most of the day at NBCBC is mobile-free, and access to websites and social media primarily associated with leisure time is blocked. This approach helps us foster presence, concentration, and the right environment for what matters most: Your learning and wellbeing. Read more here.

Behind the Project

With several years of experience, we know it takes a good framework to thrive both academically and socially. Through our project "Focus on Learning and Wellbeing", we at NBCBC are dedicated to providing you and your classmates with a study life where you feel comfortable and have the energy and focus to participate in academic learning and social activities.

Why?

At NBCBC, we are committed to creating a learning environment where you can thrive and develop both academically and personally. Unfortunately, many young people today face challenges such as loneliness and stress, which can impact both their mood and learning. That is why we have chosen to focus on supporting you with tools to help you thrive at campus and in your relationships with others.

How?

Since 2023, the day at NBCBC has been mobile-free, with limited access to social media and websites that belong to leisure time. This initiative encourages calm and focus, allowing you to concentrate on both your studies and the sense of community. We also emphasise maintaining a healthy balance in your daily life – good food, sleep, and breaks during the day are vital for making the most of your lessons. That is why our teaching includes short “brain breaks”, giving you a chance to recharge and return with full focus on both academics and community.

The Framework for Distraction-Free Learning

Mobile Phone Policy

Before lessons begin, you must turn off your mobile phone or set it to airplane mode and place it in the mobile lockers provided in all classrooms.

You can use your phone during breaks. If your family or close contacts need to reach you during the day, they can send you a text message, and you can return the call during recess.

Internet Access Policy

At NBCBC, access to websites and social media that are irrelevant to lessons and may distract you or your teachers is restricted. By eliminating these distractions, we aim to create an environment that is solely dedicated to teaching and learning, minimising disruptions for both students and faculty.

To ensure a smooth start to lessons, your computer must remain closed when class begins. Your teacher will decide when computers can be used and when they should remain closed.

Classroom Policy

  1. Students will attend all scheduled lectures and workshops on time. Lateness for class is unacceptable, and lecturers are required to mark late students absent for the entire 45-minute lecture. Students with high levels of absence risk being terminated from their studies.

  2. Chitchatting during class hours is unacceptable and disturbs greatly the learning environment. Students who disturb the environment during lectures will be asked to leave the entire 45-minute lecture. Lecturers are required to mark these students absent. Students who persistently disturb the learning environment will be sent to the Dean of Academic Affairs for a review of their academic future and student status.

  3. Preparing for lectures is an essential part of studying at university level. You will find there is a significant amount of self-study in between lectures involved. This requires time-management, self-discipline, taking responsibility as well as being dedicated and devoted to your studies. Disengaged students will be sent for mandatory counselling sessions with the Educational Counsellor. Lecturers are required to report any such cases to the Educational Counsellor. Failure to attend mandatory academic counselling will lead to a final meeting with the Dean of Academic Affairs before a potential termination of studies.

  4. Mobile phones must be placed in designated "mobile lockers”. Prior to the start of each class, you are required to hand in your mobile phone, which will remain securely stored throughout the module session. During breaks, you may retrieve your phone. Students that fail to comply with the policy will be sent to the Dean of Academic Affairs for a review of their academic future and student status.

  5. Students must at all times adhere to the rules and regulations of the student contract that is signed by all students enrolled at NBCBC. Article 6 states the following:

"Any student who violates college rules and regulations or who proves unable or unwilling to perform course studies as required by the programme will be held liable for academic misconduct. This may include being expelled from the programme and from the College.”
